Now follow the setup guideWhat computer do I need?
| Processor | Any 64-bit Intel or AMD from about 2010 onward. A Core i3 or better is ideal. |
|---|---|
| Memory (RAM) | 4 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended |
| Storage | 32 GB or more. A solid-state drive makes everything feel quicker. |
| Display and sound | Any screen. Speakers matter, because Sandcastle reads everything aloud. Touch screens work. |
| Network | Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable |
| To install | An 8 GB USB stick. Secure Boot can stay on. |
| Internet | Needed to install, to check for updates about once a day and, if you use Cloud, to sync |
Setting it up, step by step
- 1
Write the ISO to a USB stick
The installer is an ISO file. Use balenaEtcher (free, for Windows, Mac and Linux) to write it to a spare USB stick. - 2
Boot from the USB stick
On a Windows computer, open Settings, System, Recovery, then press Restart now next to Advanced startup and choose Use a device. Otherwise restart and tap F12, F2, or Esc repeatedly from power-on until a device list appears. The setup guide has a checklist if the stick is not listed.
An empty computer gets wiped. One with Windows on it and room to spare gets Sandcastle alongside, and you pick which to start. Copy off anything you would miss either way.
